Tilewright + Combat FX Studio
A downloadable tool
Buying this also supports me learning to create games without AI. Every copy goes toward the time and tools it takes to learn game making the hands-on way. Thank you.
Two for one. Buy once, download both: Tilewright, the tile map editor, and Combat FX Studio, the combat effect designer. Each is a single HTML file that runs in your browser, offline, nothing to install.
Combat FX Studio. Design slashes, hits, explosions, lightning, beams, auras, portals, rune circles, charge-ups and ground slams, then export them as transparent sprite sheets or ready Godot 4 scenes. 61 starting effects in 18 families, up to 8 layers you drag to time, 15 palettes, three render styles (smooth glow, cel shaded, pixel art), a sprite-sheet preview that lines the effect up with your own attack animation, variations you can explore and keep, and exports to PNG sheet, PNG frames, Aseprite-style JSON, GIF and a Godot 4 folder whose scene fires a contact signal on the hit frame.
Make game maps the easy way. Tilewright opens in your browser, no install, no account. Drop in a tileset, pick a brush, paint. Ten minutes in you have a level; the terrain brush draws the edges and corners for you, the eyedropper grabs anything on the map, undo covers everything. If you have ever been scared off by a big map editor, this one is for you.
It is yours forever. Pay once, keep the files. No subscription, no account, no cloud. It works offline, and your maps never leave your computer.
It plugs straight into your engine. Press Ctrl+E, pick your engine, done:
- Godot 4 – a ready scene, or the included Godot addon that imports your .tilewright files live with TileMapLayers, collision, animations and object nodes. Project › Tools › Open Tilewright opens the editor from inside Godot.
- Unity – a one-file runtime loader, no packages.
- Phaser 3 – a helper plus an example page you can open right away.
- Unreal, Construct 3, GDevelop, Defold, LÖVE, pygame, Flixel, MonoGame – Tiled-format JSON they already read.
- Your own engine – a plain, documented JSON of tile ids and objects.
Updated weekly. Tilewright started as a weekend tool and has grown every day since: auto-tiling terrains with inner corners, tile animations, isometric maps, projects with many maps, polygons, custom properties, a command palette, three sample kits with demo maps, lighting, parallax image layers and drop shadows. Every update is free for everyone who owns it.
New this week: light and atmosphere. Give a map an ambient colour and drop in lights with one click; they glow in the editor and export as real lights (Godot CanvasModulate + PointLight2D, Phaser WebGL lights, Tiled light objects). Image layers with parallax and repeat for skies and far hills. A drop-shadow checkbox that makes props sit on the ground. A presentation view that shows the map the way the player sees it. The dungeon demo is torch-lit and the platformer has a parallax sky.
What is in the box
- Stamp, terrain, fill, rectangle, select, eyedropper and object tools; brush sizes, mirror painting, saved stamps, random brush
- Unlimited layers with opacity, tint and offsets; object layers with rectangles, ellipses, points, polygons and polylines; custom properties on everything
- Solid tiles that export as real collision; one click turns them into merged collision rectangles
- Lighting with light objects, image layers with parallax, drop shadows, presentation view
- Tile animations, isometric and orthogonal maps, multiple maps per project, multiple tilesets, clipboard paste
- Import Tiled maps; export Tiled JSON, Godot scenes, simple JSON, CSV, PNG
- Autosave in the browser plus a project file; a minimap; light and dark themes; a learn-by-doing checklist for first-timers
- Three hand-drawn sample kits (overworld, dungeon, side-view platformer) with demo maps and templates so you can start from something
Buy it, unzip it, double-click index.html. That is the whole setup.
